THE SPEECH THERAPIST
Amanda Carvalho da Silva, M.S., CCC-SLP
Owner & Speech-Language Pathologist
Hello! My name is Amanda Carvalho da Silva, and I am a trilingual speech-language pathologist fluent in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. I am of Brazilian and Cuban heritage, which deeply informs my multicultural and multilingual approach to therapy. I was born in Florida and moved to Massachusetts when I was nine years old. Although I'm a native Floridian, I grew up in the Greater Boston Area, and proudly call Massachusetts home.
I earned both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Emerson College in Boston, MA. I graduated as a Generalist, which means I’m trained and well-versed across all areas of speech and language — including speech sound production, language development, fluency, voice, and social communication. This broad foundation allows me to create therapy that is flexible, personalized, and deeply responsive to each child’s needs.
I hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), am licensed by the Massachusetts Board of Speech-Language Pathology, and hold a Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) license, which also qualifies me as a licensed educator.
I’ve had the privilege of working in a variety of settings, from public schools to hospital-based programs, supporting children with diverse and complex communication needs, collaborating closely with their families and care teams. These experiences have taught me how to adapt therapy to meet each child where they are and help them reach their full potential.
Outside of work, I’m a wife and mama to a one-year-old girl, Alleriah. Being a mother has deepened my perspective as a therapist — I know first-hand the fierce love, the tireless hope, and the unwavering determination that comes with advocating for your child. I understand the joy of celebrating every milestone, and the longing to see your child thrive in every way.
My faith as a Christian is at the heart of who I am. It inspires me to approach my work with compassion, integrity, and a belief that every child is uniquely created with purpose and potential.
At The Talking Dolphin, every way of communicating is valid, and every voice matters.
Our name reflects everything we believe about communication.
Dolphins are some of the most intelligent and expressive creatures in nature. They use clicks, whistles, body movements, and touch to communicate — not just one method, but a full system of connection. That’s why they’re the perfect symbol for our total communication approach.
Why "The Talking Dolphin"?
Communication is More Than Words
We believe every child has a voice — and that voice might look different for each child. Communication can take many forms, including:
Spoken language
Gestures and facial expressions
Sign language
Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices
Play, sounds, and social interaction
Just like dolphins, children often use a blend of strategies to express themselves. Our role is to support them in discovering, refining, and celebrating those strategies — whatever they may be.
A Name That Celebrates Every Voice
Dolphins are:
Social — Empathetic — Creative — Playful — Always Learning
These are the same qualities we strive to nurture in every therapy session. We want each child to experience communication as a joyful, meaningful, and essential part of who they are. Whether your child is just starting to babble or navigating multiple languages, we’re here to help them feel confident, connected, and truly heard.
